CircuPool® Salt Water Pool Chlorine Generators

FAQs About Salt Water Pools

(and some that should be asked.)

  1. Why would I want saltwater in my pool? I hate the ocean!
Actually, by drinking water standards, most salt pools are freshwater. With just a teaspoon of salt per gallon, you won't notice anything but soft silky water. We do not sell the old fashioned systems that work at high salinity levels.
  2. My neighbor brags about their saltwater pool. Is it expensive?
There is no better way to save money on your pool than the addition of a salt system; it pays for itself quickly.
  3. I know it eliminates the need to buy chlorine but I spend a lot of money on shock and algaecide and the salt is not free, right?
With a properly sized chlorine generator, you won't need shock or algaecide and the typical annual cost for salt is $30.00.
  4. My pump and filter are almost new and I don't want to change them.
A chlorine generator does not replace the pump or filter. With such a mild saline solution, whatever equipment you have now is just fine.
  5. My kids have allergies. Will this aggrevate that?
Many people report allergy relief from the use of a saltwater pool.
  6. But if it's still cleaning the water with chlorine, won't we still have the same problems?
The chlorine generator produces a pure, natural form of chlorine that does most of it's work in the pipe and then dissipates very quickly. The residual chlorine in your pool is less than a third of what you are accustomed to. That's why you never smell it or experience the red eyes.
  7. Our water gets really warm and sometimes we get leaves and junk in the pool and algae is one of our problems.
Chlorine is an excellent algaecide....when applied consistantly like with a chlorine generator. It never forgets.
  8. What's the downside? Why doesn't everyone have a salt pool?
They will…when the people that sell chlorine run out of stories.
  9. When I backwash my filter, the water goes on my lawn. Won't the saltwater kill the grass?
No. The mild saline solution is not likely to harm anything. It's probably easier on the lawn than the highly chlorinated water you are now discharging
  10. I've seen pictures of salt corrosion damage to equipment and stone. What about that?
The modern systems made today work with a much lower salt concentration than a few years ago and no longer cause those problems. PH that is too high or too low can shorten equipment life and etch the plaster but human error is usually to blame in these cases. Lastly, poor quality stone may not hold up around a pool, no matter what is in the water. The fact is; millions of people have salt pools with absolutely no problems.
  11. Will the salt damage my vinyl liner pool?
To the contrary; most people report significantly longer vinyl life with saltwater. The greatly reduced level of residual chlorine is much kinder to the vinyl.
  12. How often do I have to clean the cell?
With modern self-cleaning systems, most cells only require attention once or twice a season. It's a ten-minute process done with a mild solution of swimming pool acid.
  13. The seven-year warranty sounds great. What then?
Like any electronics, the control module should last a long time. The electrodes in the cell do have a limited life which can be protected simply by adding salt a few times a year when the "add salt" warning light comes on. One of the great things about CircuPool® is that the price of the replacement cell is about 30% less than other brands; now available for about $390.00
  14. I see that your systems come in both 110 volt and 220. How do I know what I need?
Check your circuit breaker for the pool equipment. If it's a fat one like your air conditioner, order the 220.
  15. If I order today, when will I get it?
We ship everything within one business day and transit time is usually two to four days.
